You will hear music, but this is not a sold-out concert. You will see dance groups perform routines inspired by ancestors from years past, but this is not a dance recital. You will smell and taste cuisine from all corners of the earth, but this is not a cooking demonstration. This is the Texas Folklife Festival, and once you've experienced all the Festival has to offer, you will truly feel like a member of our family.
Please join us at the 37th annual Texas Folklife Festival celebration, where "We All Belong!" This event is a Texas tradition, and is the signature event of UTSA's Institute of Texan Cultures.
Our three-day family and friend reunion meets cultural extravaganza is THE place for visitors to revel in a smorgasbord of ethnic foods, world music and traditional folk dance. The Festival begins on Friday, June 13 and continues through Sunday, June 15, 2008. As always, the Texas Folklife Festival is held at UTSA's Institute of Texan Cultures in downtown San Antonio's HemisFair Park.
Visitors are encouraged to get involved! Learn, sing, dance, eat traditional ethnic foods, and converse with people involved in the celebration. By attending the event, know that you will be helping over 40 cultural groups from across the state preserve their traditions' past and perpetuate their own generations' futures. We invite you to help make a difference, support Texas and Texans alike, and learn how truly similar we all are.
Regardless of your own background, and no matter your age, the Festival features programs that everyone will enjoy, including music, song, dance, celebratory performances, crafts, cooking demonstrations, storytelling, pioneering skills and demonstrations, special exhibits, carnival rides, and countless other fun and educational components. For these reasons and more, the Texas Folklife Festival is proud to be celebrating its 37th anniversary!
Remember: you'll come for the food, you'll stay for the entertainment, and you'll leave with a new sense of friendship, family and community.
Discount advance tickets are available beginning May 1, 2008 (locations and prices for advance tickets).
