Now in its 34th year, the Texas Folklife Festival is the University of Texas Institute of Texan Cultures at San Antonio’s signature event and the fun begins on Thursday, June 9, and continues through Sunday, June 12, 2005. This annual celebration of the Lone Star state’s ethnic strength, rich cultural heritage and dynamic pioneering spirit is a four-day, fun-filled extravaganza featuring over 150 delectable dishes created by more than 40 ethnicities, 60 talented arts and craft vendors, storytellers, hands-on activities, artisan demonstrations, competitions, carnival rides, 10 outdoor stages presenting Texas’ finest musical entertainers and ethnic dancers and so much more! Because organizing this event is a big responsibility, the Texas Folklife Festival counts on generous support from the community to ensure our citizens understand the importance of diversityand that we are all more similar than different. People of all ages, socio-economic backgrounds and ethnicities attend the Texas Folklife Festival. Visitors come from Bexar County area and the surrounding areas, other cities in Texas, the United States and around the world, while the average visitor is a professional between the ages of 31-40. Participants include 10,000 individuals representing 260 organizations and more than 40 ethnic communities. Additionally, there are approximately 2,500 civic volunteers from over 60 counties in Texas.
