Margaret Heffernan Borland was a child in the
first group of McMullen-McGloin colonists in
1829. Thrice widowed, she became a rancher in
Victoria County. In 1873, she led a drive of her
own cattle up the trail to Kansas, but died of
"trail fever" shortly after reaching her destination.
