KIDS MEET THEIR WORLD COUNTERPARTS THROUGH ITC EXHIBIT

(San Antonio)—Esta lives in Tanzania, and her father has two wives; Sarala lives in India, and she has a pet goat; Erdene lives in Mongolia, and his home is a tent. This is just a glimpse of “Children Just Like Me,” a unique exhibit on display from May 27 through Sept. 5 at the Institute of Texan Cultures.

This traveling exhibit organized by the Cincinnati Museum Center invites children to ”meet” their counterparts from other world cultures. Young visitors can enter any of 11 life-size dwelling spaces and engage in multisensory activities to investigate the language, food, games, music, pets and clothing of each region.

Although the differences of children are highlighted in this exhibit, there are striking similarities that resonate throughout many of the cultures featured. As Mohammed from Egypt says, “When I grow up, I want to be a policeman because then I will be able to look after my country. I would like to travel all over the world and visit all the interesting places.” And, like many American children, Bogna from Poland says that her favorite food is pizza.

This exhibit is included with admission. For more information, call 210-458-2330 or visit www.texancultures.utsa.edu.
