NOTE:
This site contains materials that supplement the
New
Texans-Immigration and Citizenship multicultural
instructional units produced by the Institute of Texan Cultures.
The New Texans includes two seven-day units
on immigration and citizenship with thirty laminated photographs and stories of recently
naturalized citizens for use in Texas History and
US Government classes. The units are not presently in print; this message will change if they are reprinted in the future.
If
you are preparing to do the interviews necessary for writing your
essay you will find that the information on Interview Techniques
will provide many helpful hints.
Others of you are getting ready to do surveys for your reports.
One of the statements sometimes made by people opposing immigration is that immigrants take away jobs from citizens. The article “Chinese Immigrants Create their own Jobs” offers another point of view. You will
have to make your own decision as to what's right when you write
your report.
In class some of you have been taking the USCIS literacy test on United
States history and government which all immigrants must take to
become naturalized citizens. The complete test with answers is included
here for you.
In class you looked at photographs and read the stories of 30 people
who recently became citizens of Texas. Now you will be able to listen
to them speak in their own voices.
We are glad that you came to this site to take advantage of these
additional materials. Good luck in writing your essays and reports.
