Until 1874 the Quashadi Comanche,
led by Quanah Parker, carried on their traditional life following
the buffalo herds. When they raided settlements on the Texas
plains, the army seemed powerless against this band. But time
was on the side of the army. Buffalo hunters poured onto the
plains and destroyed the buffalo herds. With the loss of the buffalo,
the Quashadis were eventually defeated and forced onto a government
reservation in Oklahoma.
