Between the Caddo and the Jumano agriculture-
based tribes, and ranging far beyond the borders of present-day Texas, many
nomadic groups traveled the central plains following the herds of buffalo.
Prominent among these were the Wichitas,
Apaches, Kiowas, and Comanches. Other Native American tribes in the area
were the Tonkawas, the Karankawas, and the Atakapans on the Gulf Coast and
the Coahuiltecans, who lived in what became Central Texas.
