Heirs to a proud and ancient civilization, Texas’s Greek immigrants congregated in cities. There some began climbing the economic ladder from dishwasher and flower seller to restaurateur and real estate investor.

Frequently, new immigrants began work in cafes that compatriots had established. When they learned English and acquired capital, some opened their own businesses.

Stability came to the Greek community with the establishment of Greek Orthodox churches.
