Galveston Wharf

Galveston Wharf

From a few fishermen, sailors, and adventurers during the late 19th century, Texas’s flourishing Greek communities grew. The 1860 census showed only two Greeks in the state; a century later there were an estimated 10,000. Waves of Greek immigrants came to Texas in the three decades following 1890. By 1910 a tenth of Greece’s population had left the homeland for America.
