What's the Point?

OVERVIEW

Students will review images, give each a title, and place in chronological order.

SKILLS

Students will use the skill of identification of the main idea as presented in images and practice the skill of chronological sequencing.

PROCEDURE

    1. Have students work in pairs at a computer.

    2. On a piece of paper, number lines 1-11, (Images section of site), skip a line, then number lines 1-10 again (More Images section of site).

    3. Have students look at each image, giving it a title that reflects the main idea being communicated by the image. Have them write the title with the number of the image on their papers.

    4. Then have them identify the date the image was made, if possible, and write it down beside the title.

    5. When students have finished with the first set of images, have each pair make a timeline listing the images in chronological order. Correct timelines as a total group, putting a correct timeline on the board.

    6. To review the main idea of images, have class members on the same screen or project the images on a screen so all students see the same image and share their various main idea titles for each image.

7. Repeat with the next ten images or, if done as a class activity, divide students in class, with half of them working on the first ten images (Images) and other half working on the last ten images (More Images).
