The Eye of the Camera

OVERVIEW

Students list four summary statements that can be made about the images as a group and write a paragraph drawing a conclusion and presenting supporting facts.

SKILLS

Students will practice making summary statements and drawing conclusions.

PROCEDURE

    1. Place students in groups of three to a computer and have students look at all ten images in More Images.

    2. As a group, have students review the images and list four summary statements. Some prompt questions to get them started might be: "What are all these images saying? What’s important about the images? What do the images have in common?

    3. Then individually have each student select one of the summary statements and write a paragraph with at least 4 sentences.stating a conclusion with supporting facts from images.

Example: The Alamo is used as a patriotic symbol. The images show a garden star, there are flags, there is a monument, etc.
